What's Good! Southern Biscuits & Chocolate Gravy!

One of the best childhood memories I have growing up is going to my Grandpas house on the weekend to have biscuits and chocolate gravy. My moms granny made it for them and it has been handed down ever since.

Not very common where we grew up.When you ask someone around here if they have had chocolate gravy & biscuits for breakfast there like ... I've never heard of it!
It's definitely a once in a while treat, but if you have a thing for chocolate this is pure goodness, definitely a comfort food!

The best way is to use your favorite homemade biscuits, but you can also use refrigerator biscuits. I found an easy recipe that I like to use here.

The recipe for the gravy is super easy!
I thought it would be fun to see what recipes were online and to my surprise there is quite a lot of them! They are all similar. When I saw that Paula Dean had a recipe you know I had to give it a try!

Mix your cocoa, flour & sugar into your melted butter.

add your milk stir until thickened, then add a little vanilla. It's that simple!

Hot buttery biscuits....

drizzled with hot chocolate gravy!

Yes, it's good!

Good to the last drop!

What even makes this recipe more awesome is you put the left overs in the fridge and once chilled you have a chocolate pudding treat! mmmmmmm!

Paula has a biscuit recipe and chocolate gravy recipe here It's been tested, and it's oh so yum!!! Just like I remember!
I did make a little change and added 1 teaspoon of vanilla at the end once thickened. The recipe I have written down always seemed like it was missing a little something. After making Paula's I think it was the butter. My mom says my grandpa would add some butter and the vanilla to the end!

One thing I thought would be fun this new year was to spend a little more time thrifting
& putting together some fun outfits.

First outing & I'm already hooked.
I love that you can find some really pretty things and you are
saving loads on the budget & above all leading a more sustainable life style.

I have such a mixed style & I love so many looks from classic to romantic. I thought it would be fun to

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas!

We are officially on Christmas break starting today! Hooray!!!!

It's finally starting to look more like Christmas time around here!

Keeping things easy and simple is my motto this year!

I got this cute tree from Trader Joes & I had this empty storage container that I filled with moss
and some other little pretties.

Then I searched the house for other empty containers that I could fill with holiday pretties!

I always love opening those Christmas boxes

its seems I always forget what I have tucked away

in those boxes.

We have always had a real tree, but this year we decided to get a fake tree instead.
My nephew is allergic to trees and since he likes to hang out over here during break, we decided best to not have a real tree. I have to say I do like the ease & that the lights are already strung.

Chewy agrees too!

& I do have my little live mini tree.

So it's all good!

A little Christmas Poem....

The Gospel Tree . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
There once was a shining Christmas tree
Standing out where all could see.
Its brilliance captured every eye
And seemed to cheer each passer by.
"The lights are so bright," they would say
And hesitate to walk away.
The tree stood proud ablaze with light
For every light was burning bright.
Then one bulb was heard to say
"I’m tired of burning night and day;
I think I’ll just go out and take a rest
For I’m too tired to do my best;
Besides I am so very small
I doubt if I’d be missed at all."
Then a child lovingly touched the light,

Addicted to Bundt Cakes!

I have been wanting to get a bundt cake pan for a while and I had seen some cute ones at Target,

but I had always seemed to talk myself out of it.

But finally....

I took the leap....

and spent the 11.99

& I got myself this cute bundt pan!

{what a bargain!}

Which now started my new addiction...

Bundt cakes!

This was my first try.

I used the recipe that came with the pan.

It was a yummy chocolate and vanilla marbled cake!

The next try was ...

Lemon

and here we have it.... Lemon with a yummy lemon glaze.

simple

& so pretty!

I think for my next lemon one, I will try the lemon extract for the cake part.

I used fresh lemons and I think it could of been

a bit more lemony, but the fresh lemons worked great for the

glaze!

yummo with coffee for breakfast!

I just love how it slices up so easy!

A slice with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of glaze on top

maybe some fresh berries

and you have yourself an easy dessert that could serve many.

Oh the possibilities :]

And then chocolate!

mmmmm!

This one came out pretty good, wish it was a little more chocolatey though.

I'm in search for some good recipes.

so....

Simple, delish, and yummy gift idea

I had been looking for an easy granola recipe that was simple and tasty!
In my search I found one that I think is great, easy, healthy, kid tested and yumminess approved!
It is a great base that you can change up and put your favorite ingredients to your liking.

Simple, easy and oh so pretty!
My mother-in-law and her two sisters came to visit and I made this little gift for them to take home
in just a little over an hour. Seriously the recipe is that easy!

I found it here at this wonderful cooking blog Barbara Bakes. It's a great base recipe to this yummy granola.
You can really add whatever goodies you like. Like for the Very Berry Granola I used a Trader Joes mix that had dried blueberries,cherries,cranberries and raisins and then added sliced almonds and chopped pecans but still used the base of the recipe. It's also gluten free so if you have anybody on your list who can't eat wheat.

I also had to make a batch of her favorite.....

Made up some quick tags and got some simple brown bags.

and filled with the yummy treats!

Not only very simple but easy on the budget!

This year lots of this tasty treat will be givin' out!

It's been awhile!

Boy has it been awhile since my last post....
I've taken a little break... still working on that balance thing....
I can't believe it's already December ! The leaves are falling in droves around here. I love to watch the changing colors and all the beauty that fall brings.... Seems so quickly we are switching gears and the hustle
and bustle of holiday season begins.....

We have a huge pine tree and it is dropping these pretty little flowers...

We are just a few weeks from our vacation time coming to an end. Lots to do to get ready

for school and work.

But for now, I'm gonna enjoy every last bit of this simple time.

The great outdoors!

It's been a couple years since we have taken a camping trip.

We decided it was time to dust off the gear, pack up and

head to our favorite spot in the mountains.

We would have no TV

No cell phones,No computer!

Just peacefulness, nature & some much needed family time!

Enjoying the great outdoors at its best!

Yummy camp food!

Why is it that camp food always taste so much better?

My favorite part of camping is the morning and evening campfires...

And of course roasting marshmallows for smores, and evening talks around the campfire.

You couldn't ask for a better morning stroll.
This was my morning walk.

Right to the most delicious coffee bar. This makes up for being without technology,
a warm cozy bed, and a nice warm shower!
The same owners have owned it since we have been coming up here! They make the best mocha's ever!

There is lots & lots to do!

If you want lots of quiet time, you can hang out at your camp site.

Or you can bike ride,boat,hike,hangout at the lake...

you can watch a movie under the stars in the evening...

And there is always something crafty going on!

Something new we tried this year was kayaking!

A little scary, but fun.

My older son didn't hear the leaning to much to one side

would end you up in the water.

Clothes and all he ended up in the water!

If your into more action you can hang out on the beach! In the winter it snows up here and this year they had lots, so the water was still very cold!
{I should say more like ice water!} Not a whole lot of swimming going on!

We also took a 2 hour hike around the lake. Whew! A little out of shape I am!

The boys were determined they could out hike us!

We saw these crazy kids that were jumping off the edge into the lake!

The hike takes you on many different terrains!

Some really cool paths!

Very cool hidden away cabins!

Love the beds outside on the deck!

{As I'm getting older this is looking much more appealing than the tent and a blow up mattress!}

This is a little kinda hilarious....

A pay phone on the hike,but no phone!

The wild flowers were so vibrant and pretty!

We made it around the lake! Whew! It was definitely a hike!

Love this little shabby chic chair it was on the path facing the lake!

Minus the freezing nights and the bugs it was a wonderful and peaceful getaway! As you can see it wasn't a total kind of {roughin' it} camp trip, but any kind of tent camping definitely helps you appreciate a warm bed and a warm shower!

Now back to reality!

Garden Goodness!

Well, we had a bit of a slow start with our garden, but now, Oh My!

garden of plenty!

seems like they grow overnight!

Our tomatoes are a bit slower. We have tons of cherry tomatoes,they are all green right now,I have a feeling they will be ripe all at the same time. Lots of salads! I think we will have to give out bags to our neighbors.

Not to shabby for not having much of a green thumb!

Especially the up keep, we don't have a sprinkler or drip system so its remembering to
go out and water.

All well worth it though!

New things and A yummy gluten free recipe

Well summer is officially here! It has been very,very hot this past week! So far our summer break has kept us quite busy.

I wanted to share a few pics of some new items I've been working on for my Etsy Shop.

I really like the vintage feel they have.

Also

Last week we celebrated my nieces B-day and

because my sister eats gluten free

and my niece had a request for

lemon bars and rasberry pockets

we decided to make the goodies to share.

So we could all share in the sweet treats.

These are the little yummies my sister made...

oh, so lemony, lemon bars and little raspberry tarts!

The raspberry tarts were made with a cream cheese dough!

Oh my! They were delish!

And I gave it a go at a recipe to share, "Peanut Butter and chocolate chunk cookies"!

I substituted chocolate chips for the chunks.

Summer break...

Summer break is finally here, (shouts of joy) although with the weather we have been having lately,

it hasn't really been feeling to summer break like yet!

This week though, expecting lots of sunshine!

We have had a very busy past couple of weeks!

Biggest, being my oldest son graduating from high school.

"Oh where" "oh where" does the time go?

It was a wonderful ceremony and a wonderful day celebrating

with family and friends!

And of course lots and lots of good food!

Hit of the party, "Broccoli salad"! yummo!

We are now stepping into the next chapter preparing

for college life!

Let me just say, one word...Overwhelming!

His brother helped decorate the cupcakes, this one he made just for him.

I have also been busy with some orders from my Etsy shop

These wreaths are for a wedding!

I think the results our pure prettiness!

My morning addiction has been

At least we can pretend we are at a lovely far of little cottage, maybe walking distance from the
beach. Enjoying morning coffee outside on the lovely patio, hearing the little birdies chirp....

This was something she had for many,many years.

We have had many mothers day tea parties

and she new how I loved

the milk glass.

She is a spunky 89 years old.

I will take very good care of this wonderful treasure

that she loved so much and has handed it on.

Spring Cleaning...

It's been a little while since I've last blogged.....

I've been on a major organization mission......

clearing out the junk and trying to reorganize......

Boy is it hard!

Started in the garage and going through boxes.......

I found a whole box of china I hadn't seen since we moved almost three years ago......

Now I've got to find a spot for these pretties.

Trying to get organized when you have a small space

can be challenging!

Also reorganizing my craft/laundry room.

One huge Garage sale!!!

My sister and I got up bright and early this morning to attend one big garage sale!

We got there first thing and the parking lot was already over flowing!

It was like garage sale heaven.

Almost a bit over whelming with so much in one spot!
We had lots of fun searching for some bargains!

This cute little apron my sister got was a surprise. She bought the bag for 1 dollar! She couldn't wait to get to the car to open it. She was pleasantly surprised! How cute is that! And for 1 buck!

When I was younger, I remember being so excited to see

blew all the fuzzies off, your wish would then come true.

It's been a really crazy week......

We had to say good by to a very dear

and Long, time family friend,

he and his lovely wife were married for 65 years!

His gentleness and smile will definetly be missed!

My son had his last game for basketball, now

gearing up for baseball, along with sign ups

already for football. Craziness!

My husband had to have knee surgery yesterday....

He had a small meniscus tear....

He has never had surgery, so a bit anxious.

It went very well, it was same day surgery...

so we were in and out.

Amazing!

He kept saying he couldn't believe how quick

it went.

So it's crutches and taking it easy for a bit.

So yes , ready for some Friday celebration!

Pretty Lil' tea towels

This past November I got this cute!...
pretty lil' hand embroidered tea towel
at a craft faire......

Because I loved it so much, and wanted lots of them...
My mom, who was with me, said...
"why don't you make yourself some, they're easy"...
"I'll teach you how"...
Me,
not so sure on the sewing thing.
well......
She got me a present......

a hoop. {I think that's what you call it?}

all the little things I need.....
to make my own pretty lil' tea towels...

I think this might be a perfect kind of weekend
to take it out of the box and get my lesson on
making these cute towels. The forecast calls
for a very cold and rainy weekend.

4 day weekend coming to a close.....

We have had a lovely four day weekend......

just relaxin' and chillin'......

but it's now coming to a close. : [

Today in the US we celebrate presidents day.......

A time to remember the past.....

So I have been enjoying the little break......

except the weather just makes you want to just be lazy......

I can't wait to start seeing the green on the tree's
and pretty blooms popping out......
I know it's right around the corner......

I've been working on a few new things for my Etsy shop.
I have really been unfocused and have negleted my little
shop lately. Something I struggle with in a huge way.
So one of the things I really want to focus on this year is
giving it my all .

I would love and I dream of doing this full-time and I will
never know that if a don't work on making it a reality.

Going green with paper flowers.

I'm totally on a paper kick right now.......
I think because...
one-
it's like free
two-
your totally doing your part to reuse and recycle..
and three-
It's totally fun and the possibilities
are endless.

So here's my going green project...
I had some spice jars that I had saved and wanted
to reuse them......
and this is what I came up with for my jars....

I had some cut out paper flowers.....
these were cut out with a cutter.

my three little spice jars that I wanted to reuse,
all cleaned out, and labels soaked, and then washed off.

I got all my supplies ready......

I used a bit of this to age the paper....

and these little flowers that I had in my craft supplies
I used for the center.

but first....

I brushed with a bit of glue and then dipped in some glitter...

I then put it in the center of the paper flowers.....
and just used tape to secure...

I got some sticks .......

and viola' my pretty paper flowers....

and now....

some rice to fill the little jars....

and my easy make shift funnel made out of paper
that worked great to poor the rice in the little jars.

and there you have it a great thrifty,green idea.....

very easy....

very pretty.

and very green.

crazy for paper hearts

It all started when I went in to this cute little shop and
they had the cutest paper heart garland cut out of old music
sheets.........

yes...
that's what sparked my paper heart love......

and now I'm in love....

I had some old music sheets that I had gotten at a rummage
sale this past summer so I dug them out...
and then went for it.....

no pattern, no perfect cutter........

I just went crazy with the scissors......
the way a learned when I was little....

fold,cut and open.......

{you bet this lovely box of chocolates is hidden where nobody

would look like inside the box of healthy whole grain fiber cereal}.....

yes, I'm definitely heart crazy.....

How's your Bucket?

Is your bucket full?

Yesterday afternoon we had a little girl
time..............

My two little nieces came over to visit so of course
we had to have a little tea time.......

On the menu, cute heart cookies , yummy jelly sandwiches ......
and the girls brought fruit loops to share and gummies...
we had quite the menu........

This is my niece Kali she is 5.........

She asked me how my bucket was?
"Bucket?" I said,
She said, "are you a giver or a dipper?"
"Are you filling someones bucket?"
Then I got it, I said "I sure hope I'm not
a dipper, I don't want to be a dipper"......

She said, "you wanna know how to fill someones
bucket?"

Smile!
"Or you can do something kind for them, like helping them if they
fall, being nice to them, that's how you can help fill their bucket."

Bucket Fill-osophy 101
Each one of us has an invisible bucket.

It is constantly emptied or filled, depending on what others say or
do to us.

When our bucket is full, we feel great.

When it is empty, we feel awful.

Each of us has an invisible dipper.

When we use that dipper to fill other people's buckets ~ by saying or doing things to increase their positive emotions ~ we also fill our own bucket.

Spending a cozy,drizzly, Sunday morning with
the hubby...............

These chocolate croissants from T J's are the bomb!

Good enough to pretend I'm in Paris at a cute bakery
enjoying a latte and and warm flaky le croissant.......

They do take a little before thought because you have to set
them out the night before, but definitely worth it.......
I did not brush the egg whites before baking and they still
came out wonderfully golden,warm,flaky and soooo yummy!

Well....

its definitely been awhile.....

Please forgive my absence.....

Just needed a little break and some time to re-focus

on some things.....

I'm a bit late for Friday pretties but I still wanted to share

my pretty project with you...... Still working out the P word...

(Procrastinator)" That darn" I'll do it a little later gets me every time....

Since much, {ok all of my decorating} must be done

on a budget these days I'm always on the look out for

inexpensive ideas.

I really love the way this came out..........

Plants, bag of rocks and glass containers from
the dollar tree....

not only was this project about 10 bucks it took only about
10 minutes to do.

The green moss I had on hand but you can get at Michael's

for about 6 bucks use their 50 percent of coupon! You just

saved 3 bucks. Now you can stop and get a latte guilt free. :]

Where I've been, and some Friday Pretties!

Hello......

It's definitely been a while!

I feel so bad that it has been so long!

Things have just been very busy lately...

and a bit overwhelming!

lets see.....

The last time I blogged .....

My son turned 18!

He is now a licensed driver....................

Talk about adding about 50 more gray hairs to my head!

My house may benefit though cause the frantic cleaning keeps my mind busy from the worrying!

My youngest has had endless amounts of homework!!!!!!

and throw in putting on a craft faire

that will be taking place this month!

I haven't been able to keep up very well!

My mind also seems to go blank every time I think about

sitting down to blog.

But I have really missed chatting with you all! It truly brings

great joy!

Ok,
I'm sooo lovin' my new but old scale!

Stopped at a yard sale and they were selling this beauty
for $4 bucks!
We hadn't planned on stopping at any yard sales. I was taking
my sister home from dropping off her car.
And we decided to stop.
So I had no cash on me. When I spotted
This beauty I did not expect the lady to say $4.
Thankfully my sister had $2 dollars on her and then
I tore the car apart scrounging
for the other $2 bucks in change.
It was well worth it!

Art and Wine Event........

This past weekend my mom, my sister and I participated

in a Wine and Art Faire.

It was an outdoor event that had wine tasting and an art auction,

music, beer, yummy kettle corn, and lots and lots of artists!

3 roads were blocked off,

and there were booths up and down the streets.

They also had kid booths where they could create their own

masterpiece!

So I took a few pics and I thought I'd share our space and some

of the art that was there.

We have been having very mild temperatures, but

not this day. It was upper 90's, very hot! Good thing

we had the cold beer truck by our booth space!

This is were the wine tasting took place.

{ my nephew thought he broke his tooth on his lunch}

My sister and I both like to experiment in

lots of different kinds of art projects......

My mom knitted these really cool earrings and my sister

added the jewelry pieces to make earrings.

Aren't they super cute!

{I put in a birthday request for one of these!}

My mom makes lots and lots of cute knitted things!

We call her the {Knitting Queen!}

A new do and some much needed therapy.....

Things have been a little tight lately!

OK, maybe more than a little!

But I've been in need of some girl stuff!

And this cute place was where I was gonna get it!

This is Tammi.........

My gal! She is my hairdresser. Love her!
But I haven't seen her in two years!
Can you believe it!

2 whole years without a cut!

Craziness!

It was time for something new!

It was time for some beauty salon chit chat!

Some therapy time!

Something to take my mind off worrying about stuff!

My hair was longer and all I was doing was wearing
it back in a rubber band.

The wrong kind I might add! I was informed that using the
kind that had the metal.....
Not so good! Those have all gone in the garbage!

That could be part of the reason I've been losing hair.
My poor already thin, fine hair has been becoming thinner!
So I had to do something!
I did have my thyroid checked a while ago!
Maybe it's stress! Or those darn rubber bands!
Or possibly my bad eating habits.
Anyway.......

Here ya go my new do!

My hair immediately felt better!

And healthier!
Cause of that budget thing, I had a box of hair color waiting
for my new do at home! A chocolaty brown!

Amazing what a little salon time can do!
Some needed therapy! Much needed!

I guess we have become the new rest stop...

for these lovely buzzing bees............

Take a close look..........

That's no normal tree branch!

Our garden is right by this tree........

So as I was leisurely taking a stroll

and checkin' on the garden......

{making sure we still had a garden.} :]

I looked up and about wet my pants!

Holy Moly!

That's a lot of bees!

I think I left skid marks from my feet taking

off to get in the house! Good thing they weren't

killer bees!

This same time last year we had them stop

and rest in another tree.

There were 10x more and they gathered in a huge

ball about the size

of two beach balls!

Crazy!

Thankfully

one of the dads at the school I work at, is a bee

keeper.

So I frantically gave him a call!

What should we do?

We didn't want to harm them.

They were up a lot higher so it was going to be a

bit of a challenge.

So his advice......

If they don't like the spot they won't stay, if they

haven't left in a couple of days I'll come back and get them!

And sure enough a few days later they had taken

flight.........

This time around there was a lot less and they didn't

stay but the afternoon......

and then they were off again.......

I took these from my bedroom window.

They were swarming like crazy......

It was a bit scary!

They must really like our garden two have come

back to visit again!

But I have to say......

I'm glad there stay was a shorter one!

I love the bees, but not that many visitors at once

please!

A little chocolate.....

Every once in a while.........

A girl needs her chocolate fix!

This week , Well lets just say I got mine!

See's Candy is a cute candy shop that started in

Los Angeles in 1921....

When you step inside See's Candy it's like a little
step back in time.......
The cute black and white look was inspired by Mrs. See's
kitchen.

Ever since I was little, this has been a little treat!

My mom would take my sister and I to

get a few pieces in a bag....

and of course the anticipated sample they give you!

It's definitely become a little tradition we still do.
and are handing it down.... to our kiddo's
Hey, when a tradition is that good!

I love when you step in the cute door,

and the black and white checkered floor....

and of course the chocolate, lots and lots of chocolate!

The cute little ladies in their white and black outfits....

We've decided one of the ladies who has worked there
for a very long time is not getting her chocolate!
And boy does she need it!
{Not this lady in the picture though, she looks like she quite happy!}

Well this week I got my fix not once but Twice : ]

A good friend called and asked what I was doing...

She said, "meet me at See's I'll buy you a piece!"

You didn't have to say that twice!

She's always been a good mind reader.....

I think she new a was in need of a chocolate fix!

I've been in a bit of a slump....

And my second trip was with my mom and sister....

We did a bit of shopping and shared a bit of chocolate

Our See's candy is located where a bunch of the

cutest little shops are! Perfect for a girls favorite thing.....

Shop, talk, laugh, chocolate,shop.......
Good Stuff!

One of my favorites is the Dark Bordeaux! mmm!

Thank you all for your sweet comments for my sons arm!
He is doing very well!
The biggest thing is keeping him from sticking things like...
chopsticks,rulers, etc...
to itch his arm!
Oh, and the lovely smell!

Garage Sale Friday Pretties......

and they are perfect for right above

my biggest pretty..........

It was my inspiration pretty that got me to change

up my work space....

I've been wanting something different for my tiny work

area......

And when I say tiny I mean 5x12 tiny.....

I think I've finally have found the perfect fit!

Still working on it.....

But I'm thinking it's a space that is more me!

So I'm hoping this will be my new space,instead of the kitchen

table!

That's the plan!

Well, this week has definitely been a little hard getting back

in the swing of things!

First day back to school my son decided to injure his arm!

{Gotta love football!}

He didn't break the bone just almost broke it.

A torus fracture is what they call it. They still put a cast on

for 4 weeks .

So that was a fun start.....

Not so bad, considering

his freshmen year he broke his leg in wrestling

not just one but both bones in his

leg and was in a full leg cast for a couple of months!

That was not so pretty!

Ok enough of bone breakin' talk!

Now this is talent.........

Is this not the coolest thing......

Someone carved this tree in their front yard.....

My sister and I were doing one of our

favorite things to do on a Saturday morning...

Garage sale hoppin'......

and when we turned the corner on one of the streets

we were on, I caught a glance at this and was like,

" look at that tree it looks like its saying peace!"

We took a closer look and we were like,

It Is saying peace!

They actually carved it out!

It's got finger nails and creases.

Of course I didn't have my camera on me :[

But I had to go back and take a few to share with you!

I thought it was pretty cool!

Gonna enjoy our last day of summer break!

Friday Pretties And Julia

Well, I just realized that it was gonna be Friday...

and I just did this post about Julia....

I realized that I almost forgot Friday pretties....
Although I think She would pass as a pretty.

So I've added on my Pretty to this post .........

My youngest sons Art piece.......

I've been painting and he asked if he could
paint a canvas to. This is what he painted
today!
He said...." Put it on your Etsy." I said, "it's definitely
Etsy worthy,but I love it to much!"

That was it, loved her ever since then.....

I think it's her contagious smile!

Last week Suzanne over at Privet and Holly

did a post about aging gracefully .

Which I just loved.

With everywhere you turn, it's all about turning

the clock back.

When you have somebody like Julia who says...

I haven't ran out like most of Hollywood to

erase my age.....

It's so refreshing!

I came across this interview with Julia......

And this is what she had to say about the aging thing........

Julia Roberts believes "your face tells a story," and that's why the 42-year-old actress doesn't ever want to alter her life's narrative with plastic surgery, Botox or any other visage-altering treatments. In Hollywood, growing old gracefully is an endangered and even quaint idea, and Roberts can't understand why.

"It's unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don't even give themselves a chance to see what they'll look like as older persons,"

"I want to have some idea of what I'll look like before I start cleaning the slates."

A key reason she's keeping things natural is to give her the ability to communicate with her kids without confusion on their part.

"I want my kids to know when I'm pissed, when I'm happy, and when I'm confounded," she snarked. "Your face tells a story ... and it shouldn't be a story about your drive to the doctor's office."

Summer Pretties

I thought I'd share a few pretties from my garden....

For Friday Pretties..........

The last 2 years my father-in-law has come over and

helped us start our garden......

Look how pretty..........

Check out this monster of a zucchini..............

we have some yummy watermelons growin'.........
We hope to enjoy this year! Last year we picked them to early :[

Very thankful my father-in-law gets us going!

Defintely not the greatest at tending to a garden! But it sure is
fun and rewarding to watch things grow! Especially when you
get to enjoy the yummy goodness of your own garden!

Blueberry Buckle Comfort Food

Are you in need of some comfort food!

Well this is one of those recipes!

Especially when the blueberries are in season!

This is one of my boy's favorite treats!

Look how giant these blueberries are.........

I love when you can get them fresh, and they aren't
so darn expensive!

Are you ready for the recipe.......

OK.......

Here it goes.......

Pre -Heat the oven to......

Beat 1/2 cup butter on medium speed until creamy:gradually
add 1/2 cup sugar.

and one egg, mix well.

Combine 1 1/4 cups of flour, 1 tsp.baking powder and
1/4 tsp. of salt.
then.....

Alternately add the flour mixture with.........

1/2 cup of milk. Beginning and ending with the flour mixture.

Add 1 tsp. of vanilla.

Grease an 8" pan .
I use a 9x13 dish, because I double this recipe,
My gang, loves it so much and they gobble it up!

Pour the batter in the baking dish and........

top with 2 1/2 cups of yummy blueberries.
You could get away with less blueberries and it would still be fine.

Now for the yummy crumbly topping............

Add...
1/2 cup sugar. {I used brown sugar this time.} Either is tasty!
1/4 cup flour.
1/2 tsp. cinnamon. {I use a bit more.}
1/4 cup butter.
With a pastry blender, {or fingers work well}
Mix until crumbly and add sprinkle on top.

Put it in the oven.....

Bake it for 40 to 45 minutes.
Smell the yummy aroma!

Oh, yum!

It's quite tasty on it's own.

It's also very good with

vanilla ice cream, or my fav, coffee in the morning!

If it lasts that long!

I had just taken this out and went out to the back to do a few things

and this is what I came back in too. I told ya they gobble it up!

Here is the run down of the ingredients you would need.

I double this recipe.

The Batter...

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 1/4 cup flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp. vanilla

2 1/2 cups fresh blueberries

The topping....

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 flour

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 cup butter

Where does the time go?

I wanted to thank every one of my blogging friends

for your kind words and prayers for my sister!

Words can't say enough!

She is recovering very well!

Still has pain, {Maybe cause she can't sit still!}
and it was a rib that got removed....

She also ended up with a bit of a collapsed

lung from the surgery, but that also is healing

well.

At her week check up the Doctor told

her that she was doing better than most

who have this kind of surgery.

So that's a good thing!

Well.....

I've been a little away from my blog lately

and I've missed all my bloggin' friends.

Family,life,stuff......

Pink Raspberry Cupcake Cheeriness

This has been one of those weeks when ..........

Life........

Steps in and .........

It's hard to keep up!

My sister also had surgery.......

She had her first rib taken out! Ouch!

And her hospital stay will just say....

WOW! and leave it at that!

So I thought she needed some yummy cheeriness!

Don't these look delish!
They are also gluten free.
My sister also has a wheat allergy!
So I made them special for her!

She has one of those, not so common things.....
It's called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
My mom also has it.....
Long story how it was all discovered.

Hopefully removing the first rib will help
relieve the pain and pressure that comes
with this not so fun thing.......
Otherwise it's staying on a blood thinner for
the rest of her life.....
Because of the risk of a blood clot forming.
and at 37 that's not something she wants to
have to stay on.

So I thought she could use some yummy pretty cheeriness!

My family didn't mind enjoying the rest of the gluten free

one bit!

They also are corn free which my son has an allergy to.

Crazy!

So he was quite happy to also enjoy the yummy cheeriness!

You would never know they were gluten free!

Well, that's just a bit of my week!

I have not had much time for one of my favorite things to do!

And I was very sad to not participate in Friday Pretties : [

Pretty lil' Figs

Figs..........

I think they are such a pretty fruit..........
and very yummy!

Pretty colors..............

Our neighbor has this beautiful old fig tree.......

This is right outside my front door......

It brings us lots of shade.........

And she is nice enough to let us pick these pretty figs

when they our ripe...

Aren't they pretty..........

Fresh figs are available just twice a year...

from June until July...

and September to mid October.......

So I look forward to this pretty fruit...

and getting to use this

yummy recipe....

Fresh Figs with Walnuts and Mascarpone...

Here is the recipe......

1/4 chopped walnuts

12 ripe figs

2 tbls mascarpone cheese or

you can use whipped cheese

pinch of ground nutmeg

1/4 cup orange honey or

honey of your choice.

Dry fry the walnuts on med./low until toasted. cool.

Slice the stems of the figs. Cut an x in the top of each fig,

about 1 inch. Carefully squeeze each fig to open slightly.

Spoon 1/2 tsp. of the cheese into the opening and sprinkle

with nutmeg.

To serve divide the figs among individual plates. Sprinkle

with toasted walnuts, dividing evenly.Drizzle each serving

with 2 tsps. of honey.

And you have a pretty and elegant end to any meal. Yum!

Changing Table no more......

My 5.oo bargain.......

I got this changing table at a yard sale for 5.00

I was so happy it was already painted white.........
It just needed a bit if scrubbing............

I added some wheels to the bottom........
{well my handy husband added those wheels for me}......
and....

I now have a handy serving cart..............

I can roll it around easily..................

I'm so happy with the way it turned out............

What do ya think?

My 5.oo bargain!!!

I have seen where they have cut a hole in the top and set a
bucket inside and made it into a potting station........
or how about a mini portable bar.......
attach some wine glass holders underneath the shelf ,maybe a
cute towel holder,ice bucket,your in business!............

I'm happy with just a plain little rolling cart for now........

Fun Shopping........

I had entered a giveaway that sweet Anne from

Fiona and Twig had about two weeks ago!

To my surprise I won!

The prize was 80.00 to spend at the online store CSN......

Let me just say WOW!

They have lots and lots to choose from........

It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't....

So it took me a bit to choose cause there was so much
I wanted........

So here is what I finally chose..............
